The Government of Liberia to issue postage stamp in honor of the historic election of U. S. President Barack Obama.
The African nation of Liberia has released a commemorative stamp issue to celebrate the election of Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.) as the 44th President of the United States of America. Senator Barack Obama is the first African-American to be elected to the highest office in the United States, and Liberia is participating in this historic event with this special stamp issue. The Nation of Liberia feels particularly proud to celebrate this election since Senator Obama’s father was born and lived most of his life in Liberia’s African neighbor, Kenya. In addition, the Nation of Liberia has historically felt a close relationship to the United States since it was established by President James Monroe in 1822. Liberia looks to continue this relationship by commemorating President Barack Obama momentous election victory with a timely stamp issue.
These official Government Issued Postage stamps are sure to become one of the most desirable collectables for historical and stamp collectors alike. Liberia Posts will be producing two stamp sheets for this issue: A sheet of 9 stamps each valued at L$45 depicting President-elect Obama framed by a patriotic American flag background and a unique souvenir sheet that includes stamps of both President-Elect Obama and his Vice-President-Elect, Senator Joseph Biden (D-Del.), on a background of the White House with the Presidential seal.
