Breast Cancer Research stamp issued by three more nations
The postal administrations of the African nation of The Gambia, the Caribbean nation of Grenada and the Pacific island nation of the Federated States of Micronesia are proud to announce the release of postage stamps promoting Breast Cancer Awareness as part of the Breast Cancer Research Postage Stamp program. These attractive stamps closely resemble those produced by the United States Postal Service in their own successful Breast Cancer Research program. The Breast Cancer Research Postage Stamp program has been hailed as an unqualified success for breast cancer research, raising over $63 Million in the United States for the National Cancer Institute.
Dr Ernie Bodai, Chairman of Cure Breast Cancer Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing breast health awareness and education to all women and their families, has spearheaded this campaign. Breast Cancer affects 1.3 Million women each year but, thanks to advancement in research, more and more women are surviving to live full lives after treatment. Dr. Bodai, Director of Breast Surgical Services for Kaiser-Permanente, began the Breast Cancer Research Postage Stamp campaign in 1998 under the authority of the United States Postal Service to encourage active support of cancer research. The program has now expanded to six more honored nations (including Hungary, Belize, and Kosovo) who are looking to raise breast cancer awareness around the world.
The stamps are being designed and distributed by the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corp. (IGPC), the New York based leader in governmental philatelic services. Founded in 1957, IGPC is the world’s largest and most prestigious Philatelic agency representing over 70 International Government Postage Agencies including The Gambia, Grenada, and the Federated States of Micronesia. IGPC’s innovative designs and featured themes have helped to keep stamp collecting current and maintain its exalted status as “The Hobby of Kings.”
