Contracted by the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corporation (I.G.P.C.), an organization dedicated to the international development of postage stamps for international postal administrations, and Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Yemi designed the Supremes and eleven other Girl Groups Stamps Series including: The Angels, The Chantels, The Cookies, The Crystals, The Dixie Cups, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, The Marvelettes, The Ronettes, The Shirelles, The Supremes, The Velvelettes, and Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles.
Mary Wilson, founding member of the Supremes said, "I met a very talented stamp and graphic artist named Yemi and worked with him to create a unified design concept using original girl group photos. The design tied all of the stamp issues of the girl groups from five nations into one collection."
"This, to me, is one of the most gratifying projects I have ever worked on. Not only is it supporting both a historic and philanthropic purpose, but also it has given me the opportunity to personally work with Mary Wilson of the Supremes. She is a very special person and talented musician," said Yemi, Fine Artist.
Peg Davison, member of the Angels and best known for "My Boyfriend's Back," a No. 1 song in 1963, will be attending the ceremony with other Angels' members at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When she first saw the finished stamps, she commented, "They looked so good I thought they were computer generated art. It is really weird and thrilling to see your face on a postage stamp - it's something special." Davison resides in Westminster, Maryland with her husband.
